Buckfast: Freedom of Information request
New evidence linking Buckfast Tonic Wine to crime has been uncovered by a BBC Scotland investigation.
A Freedom of Information request showed the drink was mentioned in 5,638 crime reports in Strathclyde from 2006-2009, equating to three a day on average.
Here are the questions we asked Strathclyde Police. Some were not answered as they were considered to be exempt in terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

The force does not record crimes and collate them under the term 'hotspot' - accordingly, in terms of the Act this information is not held. However, where relevant or necessary spatial concentrations can be examined to ascertain where clusters of offences occur. Using this process these occur in Glasgow City Centre, the area surrounding Cumbernauld, Airdrie and Coatbridge, and the town of Ayr.
If I remember correctly I heard on the radio yesterday that the caffeine content was being reduced my 50%. I firmly believe this is a socio-cultural problem, simply put: Neds will be neds, regardless of what drink they are consuming. Take Buckfast away and it'll some of alcoholic beverage. It's as simple as that.
aye definitely, it looks like the BBC have hunted down Buckfast without requesting how many times other drinks were mentioned, I'd like to see a league table comparison for the other drinks.
Would Buckfast be top with 5638 mentions in crime reports? I've still not had the energy to issue a freedom of information request.
get some of that Buckfast into u and u may find that energy
"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone... but they've always worked for me."
lol, I'd like to see a freedom of information request letter that had been written by someone after a bottle of bucky, can imagine a lot of aggression in it
